Graduation 2021

We will be having our graduation ceremonies over 3 days this year due to the limits of adults we can have together at any one time. Each playroom will have their own day, and there will be 2 graduation ceremonies in the morning, and 2 in the afternoon. Room 6 will be Monday the 14th, room 5 Tuesday the 15th, and room 4 will be Wednesday the 16th. We will communicate with all parents regarding the time slot for their child.

Attendance will be limited to 2 adults per child and the event will be outdoors in our small garden at the back of the nursery with physical distancing in place as per COVID guidelines.

We will have the photographer on site on all 3 days to take graduation photos. Please note that we are unable to offer family photos etc this year, again just due to COVID restrictions around numbers and proximity.

World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day we will once again be having bedtime stories all day. As such we invite the children to come to nursery in their pajamas and slippers. Appropriate outdoor clothing would still be needed.

We will be exploring all sorts of stories, books, characters, and ideas, so if you have a favourite book at home then please tell us and if we have it in the nursery we can read it all together.

Virtual Burns Night

Virtual Burns Night

As we celebrate Burns Night this year we will have to be creative so that we can still come together to mark the day of the Bard, Rabbie Burns. We will be engaging the children in nursery with play and learning experiences that explore the cultural, national, and literary significance of Burns on our country. We will also be enjoying some delicious Scottish food.

We would love it if our children and families at home could also take part with some Burns themed activities; maybe reading some poems together, or making some tartan pictures, or creating some artwork to represent the story in one of Burns’ poems, or making shortbread together, or really anything else you can think of.

And of course there is the Burns Supper! If you are having haggis, neeps, & tatties or doing anything else to celebrate our national poet, please take pictures and videos and send them to us at the nursery and we can include them as part of the celebration and add them to your child’s learning journals. Send your photos to headteacher@silverdale-nursery.glasgow.sch.uk

The workshops will be led by our STEaM Champion Nicole, supported by Graham and Gillian from rooms 5 and 6, and by key workers in the rooms.

This final workshop of 2020 is a competition and covers Engineering & Design and will require teamwork;

  • Each playroom will be in competition with the others.

  • Each room will work on creating the Tallest Christmas Tree.

  • The trees must be Portable, Freestanding, & Recyclable.

If you have any questions or would like some tips on how to support STEaM learning at home with your child, please speak to their key worker in person, by calling the nursery, or by sending in a message using the ‘contact us’ section of the website.

Halloween Sponsored Walk

Halloween Sponsored Walk

We will be doing our annual Halloween sponsored walk again this year. It has proven to be a great fundraiser for the nursery and as always we will donate 25% of all monies raised to a local charity. The staff and children collectively decided they wanted to help people who ‘were not well’ and so we have decided to support GAMH - The Glasgow Association for Mental Health who do wonderful work in supporting Glaswegians with their mental health and well-being, especially during what has been a very hard year for everyone.

Sponsor forms are now available from the front office or from your child’s Key Worker. Please help us raise as much as we can to support the nursery and GAMH.

Thank you
